~2023 Summer Camps~

Session 1: Life in a Pond, June 13-15, field trip June 16
Students will get dirty as they explore a pond and discover life in every drop. From fish to frogs, from ducks to dragonflies, what role does the pond play for each creature? We will use pondwater to watercolor, find food, and investigate. Classes will walk to Mabey Pond (.4 miles) for some activities. Field Trip Friday will find us at at Landfill and Water Treatment Plant.

Session 3: Inside Insects! July 11-13
We'll crawl inside the insect world, learning to think like a honeybee, a butterfly, and a beetle. Catching bugs, classifying bugs, and dissecting bugs will take us into the woods and fields as we learn about the lifecycle and habits of insects. Art will get 3D as we use recycled materials to create our own beautiful jewelry and decor. And what about cooking??? Come find out how to eat like an insect and dress like a beekeeper! Field trip Friday will find us at the Ogden Nature Center.

Session 2: Let's Get Tiny! June 20-22, field trip June 21
Microbiology Madness! We'll zoom in on the world around us, examining life close up. Collecting samples from nature, we'll grow bacteria in a petri dish. In the kitchen, we'll discover the role microbes play in breads, yogurts, cheeses, and more. We'll capture the beauty of it all in microbial artwork. Our field trip will take us to the Beehive Cheese Company in Uintah on June 21 at 9:00.

Mr. Zentz is a seasoned middle school teacher who would rather get dirty outside than study inside. Why? Why? Why? Guiding students to think for themselves and dig deeper for answers is his goal!
